Case Synopsis
TBR 24-7 were appointed by the board of governors to facilitate the Removal and replacement of the main school boiler house, hot and cold-water distribution pipework and building radiators.Case Summary
The project was to have the school old heating distribution and radiators replaced with a new heating system and hot water distribution as well as a new plant room installation. This started with a detailed plan put together by our senior management team and aligned with the stakeholders of the school.
When this was agreed we then put our supply chain process in to action to bring it into line with our plan of works.
The onsite coordination was then put in place with a compound area fenced off from the school for a safe working area. All health and safety requirements had been set up well in advance with the approval of the school.
Problem
The school had a dated heating and hot water system which was inefficient. There was no working heating in the school and a dilapidated piping system which needed to be updated. All radiators needed to be strategically placed within the buildings classrooms so to optimize heat for the pupils.Solution
We placed a Team of 2 engineers to strip out the boiler room and isolate. We also had a team of 4 engineers to strip out the pipework, valves, and radiators from the main body of the school. We had to move around the school carefully and we were in constant conversations with the school as to what they needed from us. We put a plan in action to cover 3 phases as to not disrupt the pupils too much in their school day.
This enabled the school to move classrooms well in advance and enable us to carry out works in each area.
Testimonial
“As a school we were not looking forward to the installation of a whole new heating system in term time, but it was a necessity. To have a long-term building project throughout the classrooms, corridors, and hall we knew would be very disruptive to everyday school life. The installation was from Nov 2021 through to May 2022.A lot of our fears and worries were nullified early on with TBR due to regular meetings and updates keeping us as a school very aware of what was to come.
The TBR team as a whole were excellent – very approachable, in fact they became ‘staff members’ for the time they were with us. They worked diligently throughout their time at Kirkby CE working before and after school on ‘noisy’ jobs and using the school holidays where there were no children present to full effect. This all helped to keep disruption of the classes and the children’s learning to a minimum. All areas of the school were kept safe and clean which was really important due to the unusual layout and the difficulty in blocking areas off.
It is only now with the cold weather approaching that we will see (and feel) the benefit of the great work that TBR did for us as a school”.
