ConvaTec - Deeside

Case Synopsis

TBR 24-7 were appointed by Convatec to facilitate the removal and replacement of the main production boiler house(s), and ancillary plant items

Case Summary

The project was to have the main production boilers, flues and ancillary items replaced with a new high efficiency plant.

This started with a detailed plan put together by our senior management team and aligned with the stakeholders within facilities, health & safety and production departments. When this was agreed we then put our supply chain process in to action to bring it into line with our plan of works.

The onsite coordination was then put in place with site compound areas fenced off from the main buildings for a safe working area. All health and safety requirements had been set up well in advance with the approval of the client.

Problem

Production cannot be interrupted, and the boiler plant operates 365 days a year in order to provide the correct manufacturing conditions in line with the client’s master validation plan.

Solution

We placed a Team of engineers to safely isolate one of the old boilers and flue sections making space for the new plant. New boiler and LTHW pipework was installed and the new flue installed. The new plant was made functional and changed over to allow a seamless transition from new to old plant. The remaining old plant items which were now redundant were then stripped out including a weekend crane lift of the old flue.

We were in constant conversations with the business as to not disrupt the staff, manufacturing processes and site logistics. This enabled the business to continue as normal accommodating by planning/diverting deliveries to and from the 2 on site loading bays areas for the warehouse well in advance and so enabled us to carry out works in each area without disruption.

Evaluation

The client now has 2 production boiler houses which operate efficiently, and production was not impacted in any way.

Testimonial

“Convatec have been working with TBR for a number of years on a great deal of important projects, this one was particularly tricky in the fact production could not be affected.
Convatec is a wound care company and our clients rely on our supply chain. The project could not have gone better, H&S, communication from the ground up was absolutely spot on. We could not have wished for a smoother change over from old to new.
The TBR engineers were excellent – very approachable, in fact they became part of our team giving clear details of what the day/week ahead looked like.
Health and Safety are very imports factors in our assessment of works and they consistently delivered on this too, we have regular site walk arounds by our executive team and no issues were found or flagged, which puts my own department in a good light.
I can’t recommend TBR enough and we will continue to engage with them on future projects”.
